Red Hawk Casino Night brings four-divisions to Placerville Speedway Saturday

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA…The Thunder in the Foothills championship season returns to Placerville Speedway this Saturday July 9th for “Red Hawk Casino Night” at the races.

The El Dorado County Fairgrounds venue is fresh off a successful 4th of July show and this Saturday is expected to bring another full pit area of race cars. Divisions converging on the red clay for Red Hawk Casino Night will be the Thompson’s Family of Dealerships Winged Sprint Cars, the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks, the Mtn. Democrat Mini Trucks and the traveling BCRA Lightning Sprints.

Voted Sacramento’s Best Casino, Red Hawk boasts magnificent views and a natural setting and provides a first-class gaming experience. Located on a beautiful hilltop less than 20 minutes east of Sacramento on Highway 50, Red Hawk is the gamblers oasis with more than 2,500 slots, a variety of table games and award-winning dining. Prior to the races and afterwards be sure to make Red Hawk your destination for fun! To learn more visit

Going into this Saturday the million-dollar question everyone will be asking is certainly, “Can anybody stop the red-hot Justin Sanders?” The Aromas driver claimed his fifth Placerville Speedway Winged 360 Sprint Car win of the year on Monday and returns this weekend looking for another. Thus far in 2022, Sanders is five for five when it comes to his Winged 360 starts at the bullring.

Auburn’s Andy Forsberg continues to lead the Thompson’s Winged Sprint Car standings and even added some additional points to it following the 4th of July event. The 46-year-old goes into Saturday with an 18-digit advantage over Foresthill’s Jodie Robinson. The 19-year-old had an excellent rebound in the feature on Monday to charge her way from 17th to eighth. Bubba Decaires, Shane Hopkins and Michael Ing round out the top-five in points.

Defending Placerville Speedway champion Nick Baldwin brings the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stock point lead into Saturday. The Oakley racer continues to be a mark of consistency, having finished among the top-five at each event so far. Young Michael Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Kevin Jinkerson and reigning Rookie of the Year Jonny Walsh complete the top-five in the standings. The Pure Stocks are coming off a thrilling feature this past Monday.

For the first time in a long time, we welcome back the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks this weekend. With three rounds complete Mike Miller leads the way but is only eight points up on Austin Struthers and Thomas Jensen. Rounding out the card on Saturday will be the BCRA Lightning Sprints, who make their third appearance of 2022. The first two events have been picked off by San Diego’s AJ Bender and Waterford’s Dakota Albright respectively.

Adult tickets this Saturday July 9th cost $18 while seniors 62+, military and juniors 12-17 will be $16. Kids 6-11 cost $8, while ages 5 and under are free. Purchase tickets online at or at the gate on race day.

Grandstand seating is general admission at each event, except for the reserved seats marked for season ticket holders. Please note if patrons sit in a reserved seat, they may be asked to move. Pit passes can be purchased at the pit gate or on Pit Pay to take advantage of the expanded seating area on the hill.

The pit gate will open at noon, with the front grandstand gate opening at 3pm. Happy Hour is offered when the gates open until 6pm in the grandstands featuring live music along with discounted Coors Light and Coors Original at the beer booth. The pit meeting will be held at 4:30pm with cars on track at 5:15. Hot laps, ADCO Driveline qualifying and racing will follow.
