Hogge and Jernagen Score Wins at Placerville Speedway

Bobby Hogge and Garrett Jernagen Score Wins at Placerville Speedway to Open IMCA CA Speedweek Pres. by Hoppes Motorsports

(Placerville, CA)- Monday night at Placerville Speedway, IMCA CA Speedweek came to life with 51 IMCA Modified’s, 36 IMCA Sport Mods, and 15 Placerville Speedway Limited Late Models. When the dust settled it was Bobby Hogge picking up the Modified and Ltd. Late Model wins, while Garrett Jernagen mastered traffic and won with the Sport Mods.

When the 30-lap IMCA Modified feature came to life, it was Hogge and Danny Wagner running side by side with Hogge finally getting the advantage. After winning the Ltd. Late Model feature utilizing the cushion, Hogge would work the low groove in one and two, and the top in three and four.

As the Salinas, CA driver continued to lead the way, Shane DeVolder was pounding the top at both ends of the speedway and momentum was building in his favor as he tracked down Hogge.

On the 20th lap, DeVolder would pull alongside Hogge and get the lead out of turn four as they completed the 21st lap. Staying patient, Hogge continued to run his same line as was there to pounce when DeVolder tripped on the cushion on the 22nd lap and reassumed the race lead.

Back in front, Hogge would turn in flawless laps as he went on to pick up the win.

Behind him, Nick DeCarlo would overtake DeVolder to finish second, DeVolder would finish third, while Robby Sawyer and Paul Stone rounded out the Top-5.

Heat race wins would go to Ryan Daves, Brain Cass, Jake Pike, Jim Pettit, Kellen Chadwick, and Shane DeVolder.

B Main wins went to Troy Foulger, Jeffrey Faulkner, Darrell Hughes, and Paul Stone.

In IMCA Sport Mod action, Jason Bannister would grab the race lead from his front row starting position and would use the moisture that was on the bottom groove at both ends of the Placerville Speedway bullring.

While he was smooth on the bottom, behind him Garrett Jernagen was pounding the Placerville Speedway cushion from the fourth row and making headway towards the front.

Getting into third as the lead duo of Bannister and KC Keller found traffic, Jernagen was relentless up top as he had the momentum and soon made it a three-car battle for the lead at the race’s halfway point.

As the lead trio continued to maneuver through traffic, Jernagen made his race winning move on the 18th lap as he got into the race lead and quickly began pulling away from the field.

Jernagen would go on to pick up the opening night win with the IMCA Sport Mods as Bannister ran second, Keller third, Brian Cooper fourth, and Andrew Peckham fifth.

Heat race wins on this night went to Brent Curan, Jason Bannister, Tanner Thomas, and Garrett Jernagan.

B Main wins went to Timothy Allerdings, and Chuck Weir.

Placerville Limited Late Model action saw Jay Norton race to the early lead though he would feel pressure from Modified stand out, Bobby Hogge.

While Norton worked the bottom of the speedway to perfection, behind him Hogge was figuring out the thick Placerville Speedway cushion.

Hogge was finally able to build up his momentum enough where he would get the best of Norton off the exit of turn two and ride the cushion into turns three and four and take full command of the 20-lap feature event.

Hogge would go on to race his way to the popular win, and take home the $1000 top prize courtesy of Lightfoot Automotive, Vaca Valley Excavating and Trucking, 21st Century Heating and Air, Bill O’Neil, Caspers Muffler and Hitch, Szabo Precision, and Riebest Auto Parts.

Norton would hang on to finish second, Matt Micheli third, Ray Trimble fourth, and Matt Davis would rally from the eighth row to round out the Top-5.
