Placerville, CA…The Saturday August 27th running of “Legends Night” is already shaping up to be a can’t miss evening of competition at Placerville Speedway. The event is now set to get even more special as Elk Grove native Bobby McMahan is scheduled to make his final Sprint Car start at the show.
Having already announced that Paul McMahan will make his last call on Legends Night, it creates a memorable occasion where each brother finishes off their respective career back home where it all started. Bobby, now 56-years-of age, will be aboard the Soares Motorsports No. 12 next week for the final start of his career.
“Legends Night is going to be a pretty special event with a lot of names from the days gone by on hand,” said Placerville Speedway Promoter Scott Russell. “Having Bobby (McMahan) join his brother Paul to wrap up their Sprint Car careers together on August 27th is going to be great. Rick Hirst does an awesome job with getting the vintage cars and old racers together for the night. We can’t think of a better way to cap the championship season.”
Bobby McMahan began racing Sprint Cars competitively in 1982, garnering Rookie of the Year honors at the Placerville Speedway that season.
It started a successful career that lasted 20-years, prior to a hiatus for roughly five-seasons beginning in 2003. Following the time off, he returned to the racing scene full time in 2009 and claimed the Silver Dollar Speedway 410 track championship.
McMahan finished runner up in the 1996 Northern Auto Racing Club standings driving for car owner Clyde Lamar. He also scored second in points with the Golden State Challenge Series while wheeling the Bumgarner Racing No. 88 Sprint Car in 1997.
Among his finest accomplishments came during the ’96 campaign when he captured the NARC Speedweek title aboard the Tri-C Manufacturing No. 3C mount.
Legends Night has become one of the more anticipated events of the season and this year also doubles as the championship finale at the Placerville bullring. The Thompson’s Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks, BCRA Lightning Sprints and Vintage Hard Tops will all tackle the red clay at the spectacle. It is also the final tune-up prior to the “Nor*Cal Posse Shootout” double header on Labor Day weekend.
Adult tickets for Legends Night on Saturday August 27th cost $18 while seniors 62+, military and juniors 12-17 will be $16. Kids 6-11 cost $8, while ages 5 and under are free. Purchase tickets online at https://www.eventsprout.com/event/points-race-16 or at the gate on race day.
Grandstand seating is general admission at each event, except for the reserved seats marked for season ticket holders. Please note if patrons sit in a reserved seat, they may be asked to move. Pit passes can be purchased at the pit gate or on Pit Pay to take advantage of the expanded seating area on the hill. For those who can’t make it Flo Racing will be providing live coverage.
The pit gate will open at noon, with the front grandstand gate opening at 3pm. Happy Hour is offered when the gates open until 6pm in the grandstands featuring live music along with discounted Coors Light and Coors Original at the beer booth. The pit meeting will be held at 4:30pm with cars on track at 5:15. Hot laps, ADCO Driveline qualifying and racing will follow.
