Placerville Speedway opens big month of August with Carnett Clash

Placerville Speedway is set to launch the month of August with one its special nights of the year for both the Ltd. Late Models and Pure Stocks, with the annual “Carnett Clash” presented by Ford’s Only taking place this Saturday.

Joining the Ltd. Late Models and Pure Stocks at the Carnett Clash will be the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks and Thompson’s Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars.

This Saturday August 1st is the final show that includes free fan parking thanks to the El Dorado County Fair Association. It also launches four straight “Summertime Saturday Nights” of racing that all concludes with Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing on August 22^nd.

The Kings Meats Ltd Late Model feature this Saturday at the Carnett Clash will hand out a solid $2,000 to win, $1,000 for second, $750 for third, $500 for fourth and is guaranteed $250 to start. The Xtreme Ltd. Late Model Series is also donating three gas cans that will go to three different cars in the main event by random draw.

The Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stock feature will dish out $1,000 to win, $500 for second, $350 for third and is guaranteed $250 to start.

The Pure Stock portion of the Carnett Clash will once again be open to multiple competitors from various tracks throughout our region. As noted in a previous release, the event will be show up points only, with the local track divisions welcomed in.

The Mini Truck feature will also offer a stout $400 to win, $200 for second and guaranteed $50 to start. Forryst Carnett is working on the Late Model portion while Russ Murphy with Ford’s Only is heading up the Pure Stock side of things.

Bryan Carnett was a true fan of the stock car divisions at Placerville Speedway while racing, owning, and sponsoring both Pure Stocks and Late Models throughout the decade he spent at the track. Bryan had a knack for storytelling. He could carry on a conversation with anyone and oftentimes had people in tears laughing from his sense of humor.

He was known for his generous, caring personality and was always willing to give of himself to help someone in need. On October 18, 2015, after a short but aggressive battle with brain, bone and lung cancer, Bryan passed away at his home in Placerville surrounded by his family.

“Placerville Speedway has always been our home track, and I am thrilled that Scott Russell and Kami Arnold were willing to host the Carnett Clash once again,” said Forryst Carnett, son of the late Bryan Carnett. “I am hoping we can build upon the success we’ve had and have another exciting night of racing, which is the best way to remember the competitive spirit of my dad.”

Oakley’s Nick Baldwin is in search of an eighth Pure Stock championship at Placerville Speedway and heads into the Carnett Clash sitting atop the standings. Baldwin is fresh off his sixth triumph of the season at the most recent race and looks to add the Carnett to his fantastic campaign thus far.

The Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models continue to be led by Yuba City’s Rod Oliver. The defending track champion has one win and top five efforts at each race. Auburn’s Ray Trimble leads the way in the wins category with four triumphs to his credit thus far.

Young Noah Lapoint brings the Mountain Democrat Mini Truck point lead into the Carnett Clash. The Camino driver has put together a strong year with three wins overall.

With four races left in the Thompson’s Family of Dealerships Winged Sprint Car season it is Justyn Cox who sits atop the standings. The 2023 SCCT champion holds a 29-point lead over Andy Forsberg heading into the Carnett Clash on Saturday.

Tickets and Details:

Grandstand seating during the Carnett Clash will be General Admission this Saturday August 1st, apart from the reserved seats allocated to season ticket holders that are marked.

Adult tickets cost just $18, while seniors 62+, military and juniors 12-17 will be $16. Kids 6-11 cost $8 and those five and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online via https://www.eventsprout.com/event/psr-080126 

The pit gate will open at noon, with the front gate opening at 4pm. Cars hit the track at 5:15pm with hot laps, ADCO Driveline Qualifying and racing to follow. Hirst Home Team Happy Hour is offered from 4-6pm in the grandstands featuring live music and discounted Coors Light/ Coors Banquet Beer at the Cold Zone.
