Interpretation of, or amendment to, these rules
may be made; however, at any time. The rules and/or regulations set forth herein
are designed to Provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to
establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall
govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all
registrants are deemed to have complied with these rules. No express or implied
warranty of safety shall result from publications of, or compliance with these
and/or regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport
and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants.
GENERAL RULES
1. Silver Dollar Speedway Race Rules
shall apply at all Silver Dollar Speedway events.
2. Silver Dollar Speedway Officials shall have full authority over
Silver Dollar Speedway Race Events. At the discretion of the Official(s) in
charge, any competitor may be disqualified for rule violations or hazardous
equipment or hazardous actions.
3. All Silver Dollar Speedway Vehicles subject to inspection by an
Official Tech Inspector at any time.
4. Approval of a Silver Dollar Speedway Vehicle by the Official Tech
Inspector shall mean only that the Vehicle is approved for participation in a
competitive event and shall not construed in any way to mean that the
inspected Vehicle is guaranteed to be mechanically sound. Be it further
declared that the Official Tech Inspector shall not be liable, nor shall Silver
Dollar Speedway for any mechanical failure nor for any losses, injuries or
death resulting from same.
5. Any un-sportsman like conduct by drivers, owners and/or pit crews
shall be grounds for disqualification and/or punitive action by the Officials
and will be strictly enforced. Owners and Drivers are responsible for the
conduct and actions of their crewmembers. Owners will be paid all Moneys and
must furnish the business office with their valid Social Security Number.
6. Absolutely NO Alcoholic beverages will be consumed by the drivers or
their pit crews prior to, or during an event. Use, Distribution or sale of
illegal drugs at ANY TIME shall be cause for immediate, indefinite suspension.
7. All people in the pits must be at least 16 years of age (proof of
age required). Persons under 18 years of age must have a signed and notarized
Parental consent form signed by parent of Legal Guardian and said document
must be in the hands of the JPM Business Office Before participation.
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
(A) IMCA/UMP Modified style race cars.
(B) No aluminum blocks or cylinder heads.
(C) No quick change rear ends.
(D) Hoosier tire rule G-60-15.
NUMBER SPECIFICATIONS
Numbers must be a minimum of 14” in height and
2” wide on both side panels. Rear numbers may be smaller. All numbers will be
issued by Silver Dollar speedway Business Office. NUMBERS WILL BE IN
ACCORDANCE TO THE REGULATIONS OR NO PAY OR POINTS to be issued for the
program. All cars will be painted in bright colors and the numbers will be
contrast. All cars must meet the approval of the officials to appearance. If a
number isn’t used at least once every 30 days, it will automatically revert
back to the Silver Dollar Speedway. After December 1st ALL NUMBERS ARE FIRST
COME FIRST PAID. There will be NO duplicate car numbers, NO numbers with a
letter (A, X, C, B, or K, etc.). The only time a letter behind the number will
be used is on a first time visitor only. (ONE GUEST APPEARANCE ALLOWED BEFORE
YOU MUST REGISTER.).
SUGGESTED SAFETY EQUIPMENT
ANY CAR, TEAM OR DRIVER NOT MEETING SILVER
DOLLAR SPEEDWAY SPECIFICATIONS, OR STANDARD RACING SAFETY PROCEDURES AND
EQUIPMENT, IS SUBJECT TO AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION AND / OR PENALTIES.
ROLL CAGES
(A) Must consist of continuous hoops not less
than 1.666-inch outside diameter and must have a wall thickness of at least
.095”. (B) Must be frame –mounted in at least six (6) places. (C) Must consist of a configuration of front and rear hoops connected by tubing
on the sides or side hoops. Driver’s head must not protrude above cage with
helmet on and strapped in driver’s seat. Roll cage must be securely supported
and braced. (D) Low carbon, mild steel tubing is recommended. No brazing or soldering
allowed. (E) Protection of feet is mandatory. Bar across back of engine with vertical
bars and rub rails, or similar protection. (F) NO brace bars forward of cage may be higher than stock height.
DRIVER DOOR BARS
Must be as parallel with the ground as possible
and located perpendicular to the driver so as to provide maximum protection
for driver but without causing undue difficulty in getting into or out of
vehicle. The sidebars must be welded to the front and rear of the roll cage
members. No brazing or soldering allowed. Door bar less than .095” thickness
should have four (4) bars at least 1 ½” diameter.
HELMETS
Are required and must be approved SHCA or
Snell-type full coverage and should be worn at all times car is on the track.
Helmets-Snell SA2000 or SA2005 recommended. Helmet must accompany vehicle at time of
inspection.
FIRE SUITS
Of a flame-retardant nature must be worn by all
competitors. Two-piece fire suits allowed. Fire resistant gloves recommended.
BRAKES
Must be operational on all 4 wheels at inspection.
EXHAUST SYSTEM
Just be mounted in such a way as to direct
spent gases away from cockpit of vehicle and away from areas of possible fuel
spillage.
RACING FUEL CELLS
Are required and must be mounted by at least
two steel straps, two inches wide around cell. Fuel cells must be enclosed in
metal container and must also be protected in rear of axle by roll-cage tubing
mounted securely. No part of fuel cell should be lower than protective tubing.
Protective tubing should be no wider than 6” on both sides of fuel cell.
Fuel cells must have check valves and bladders are highly recommended. Fuel
cells are limited to 32-gallons maximum capacity.
BATTERIES
Must be securely mounted and shielded.
Batteries mounted inside vehicle must be in marine-type cases.
FUEL
May be either gasoline or alcohol. NO Nitrous
Oxide. NO additives of any kind (Penalty: See rule Engines Claiming and
Exchange [J]).
LOOSE OBJECTS
And/or weights must not be used in driver’s
compartment or outside of the body or hood area. Any weights added to the
vehicle must be securely mounted at least with 2 ½” bolts and should be
painted white with car number on them.
TIRES
(A) Hoosier IMCA stamped G60-15 unaltered mounted on conventional
8” steel wheel. Bead locking devices, including screws, may be used. No
grooving of tires allowed. Mud plugs allowed. Bead lock on RT/Rear only.
(B) Maximum overall width (front or rear) shall not exceed 78” from out
side of tread. Maximum ½” spacer, between hub and wheel, steel or aluminum,
allowed on car, so long as overall width does not exceed 78” limit. No wheel
adapters allowed.
STARTERS
All vehicles must have the capability of
starting without being pushed or pulled.
FRAMES
(A) Factory production complete full
1960 or newer parallel American passenger car frames only. Frames may be cut
in rear only at point not further than 36” from center of rear-end housing.
(B) Frames may not be widened or narrowed and must be able to support
roll cage on both sides. Must be full and complete both sides. Front cross
member may be notched for radiator clearance only. Minimum frame height (and
body height) from ground is 4”.
(C) Front suspension and steering must be unaltered OEM and be in stock
location and must be replaceable by stock part from same type suspension.
Stock passenger car spindles only; no fabricated spindles. Bottom A-frames
cannot be altered or moved. Front sway bar must be OEM. Outer Tie rod end and
adjustment sleeve may be replaced by a minimum .625 rod end and steel tube. Aftermarket lower control arms are legal
but they must remain in stock location.
(D) Tube-type upper A- frames allowed and can be moved.
(E) No coil-over shocks allowed on front.
(F) No Jeep, Bronco (etc.) or 4-wheel drive frames allowed. No sports
car frames allowed. No front wheel drive allowed.
(G) Rear of frame may be altered to accept leaf or coil springs; any
coil spring must be at least 4 ½” outside diameter. No fiberglass springs
allowed. No torsion bars allowed in rear.
(H) No hydraulic, ratchet or electric weight jacks anywhere in or on
car.
(I) One shock per wheel only. Additional shocks in other locations
permissible. Any shock on car may be claimed for $50.
(J) Minimum wheelbase, 108 inches, both sides NO-TOLERANCE. No front
clips or tube type allowed. No aluminum or fiberglass suspension parts. No
aluminum drive shafts.
WEIGHT
Minimum weight limit of 2450 pounds (IMCA), after any
race with the driver in the car. NO TOLERANCE. Loose objects and/or weights
must not be used in driver’s compartment or outside of body or hood area. Any
weights added to other areas of Vehicle must be securely mounted with at least
2 ½” bolts, painted white and have car number on it. No gun-drilled, tubular
or hollow bolts or studs.
BODIES
(A) 1970 or newer American compact
passenger car only (No panel vans or wagons). Must use steel or fiberglass
full size roof. Should be stock appearing. Stock appearing front windshield
and rear window support unit (painted roll bars not acceptable substitute).
(B) Firewall and floorboards are mandatory. All body parts should be
recognizable as factory production vehicle. Fiberglass or metal duplicates of
body parts are permitted. Handmade body parts may be constructed of steel,
aluminum or fiberglass, but should be recognizable as factory production
vehicle. No “slab” bodies. All cars in competition must have a complete paint
job. Unpainted aluminum bodies are not acceptable.
(C) All cars must be numbered with large legible numbers on both doors,
on top and rear panels. Letters on doors of car should be in contrasting color
from body, be at least 4” thick and at least 20” high. Top numbers should be
at least 4” thick and 30” high.
(D) Sponsor’s names must not interfere with car numbers and must neatly
lettered.
(E) Original roofline of vehicle should be maintained with a maximum of
5” drop to the front and 2” to the rear. No wings, spoilers or any other
ground effects are allowed anywhere outside or inside car.
(F) Engine compartment will remain open, no side panels: hood sides may
have maximum 4” drop and hood must enclosed to keep engine fire out of the
driver’s face. Bodies should extend no further forward than back of block.
Rear of bodies to be solid panel at least 8” high and include car number. No
panel in front of right door to engine compartment.
(G) Driver and passenger windows on both sides of car must have at
least 12” vertical opening. Must have left side window net or arm restraints.
(F) Rear Spoiler shall be a maximum of 8 inches tall of total material. You may run any angle to a maximum of
6 inches higher at the rear of the spoiler than where the spoiler is mounted to the rear deck.
TRANSMISSIONS
(A) OEM production type
transmissions will be allowed - 3-speed and 4-speed must be clutch operated.
Automatic transmissions are allowed. IMCA approved aftermarket transmission permitted, Falcon/Bert type. No 5-speed transmissions, NO “in and out”
boxes. (With motor running and in still position, driver must be able to
engage car in gear and move forward, than backwards, at time of inspection.
(B) Transmissions must have at least one gear forward and one gear
reverse, plus a neutral position and must be able to be shifted by driver. All
racecars must join lineup on demand, unaided or go to the rear of that race.
(C) Clutch-type transmissions must be equipped with an explosion-proof
steel bellhousing. If an explosion-proof bellhousing is not available for your
engine, or if you prefer, you may construct a shield of at least ½” x 6” steel
covering the clutch area 360 degrees and be securely fastened (highly
recommended to include automatic transmissions; required for e-mod series).
COMPETITION SHOULDER HARNESS
At least 3”, lap belt at least 3”, and substrap
are required. No factory type shoulder belts or straps. Metal to metal buckles
are required. The shoulder harness should be mounted even with or slightly
above driver’s shoulders. Seat belts and Shoulder harness recommended not more
than 1 year old.
KILL SWITCH
Required within easy reach of driver. This
switch must be clearly marked “off” and “on”.
DRIVE SHAFT LOOP
Required and must be constructed of at least ¼”
x 2” steel and should be mounted no more than 6” back from front of drive
shaft. Drive shaft must be painted white.
BUMPERS
(A) Bumpers should be used both front
and rear. Front bumpers should be mounted frame end-to-frame end with the
bottom loop parallel to the ground. Should be made of minimum 1 ¼” tubing and
be able to support car if lifted by wrecker.
(B) Rear bumper, nerf bars and bodies must not extend beyond width of
rear tires, and must not contain any sharp edges.
(C) Rear bumpers may constructed of tubing or flat stock and must
protect fuel cell. Center of bumpers (front and rear) must be 18” (plus or
minus 2”) from ground. Rear bumpers no more than 4” wider than body.
ASPIRATION
(A) One 2 or one 4-barrel carburetor okay: must be naturally aspirated. No
fuel injection; NO electric fuel pumps; No magnetos.
(B) Mufflers mandatory; 95DBA @ 100 feet.
REAR END
(A) Any passenger car type or truck rear
end may be used; no aluminum allowed, except lowering blocks, axle cap, drive
plate, and spools.
(B) No quick-change devices allowed.
STEERING BOX
Must be OEM. No rack and pinion allowed. Must
remain within original bolt pattern for type of frame used. In cockpit,
steering may be modified to suit driver’s taste, but must be kept on left side
of cockpit. NO CENTER STEERING.
No transmitting or listening devices in car.
WHEELS
Aluminum wheels, hubs, calipers, “A” frames or
spindles or any other aluminum suspension parts, are not allowed. Plastic
wheels not allowed. Front calipers cannot be lightened and must be OEM. Rotors
me be redrilled for different bolt pattern or larger studs.
ENGINES
Any American-made engine may be used as long as rear of engine (bellhousing
flange) is mounted at least 72” forward from the center of rear axle. Engine
offset must be kept within 2” of centerline of front crossmember. Engine height
minimum will be 11” from ground to front center of crankshaft.
(A) All engines used in competition must
be able to be used in conventional passenger car without alterations. Motor
mounts cannot be removed or altered. Castings and fittings must not be
changed. No machine work on outside engine or on front or rear of camshaft. No
aluminum blocks or heads.
(B) No total “dry sump” systems allowed. “Wet” system must be operative
and will go with engine if claimed.
(C) Cooling system may be modified. Radiators and oil coolers must not
protrude above interior.
ENGINE CLAIMING & EXCHANGES
(A) The first four Main Event finishers
must report directly to the claiming area. Failure to do so will result in
disqualification and loss of points and money for the first offense (heads and
manifold are still claimable) A second infraction will be treated as a claim
refusal. Only drivers and officials are allowed in claiming area. There is a
$900 cash claim on heads and intake manifold exchange. First decision to sell
or not is binding.
(B) NO driver may claim unless he has competed at the track the three
previous events as member of SDS. Claim is in effect on opening night for all
eligible member driver’s and driver must have competed at the track and been a
member on opening night to be eligible to claim the fourth night of the
season.
(C) Claim includes cylinder heads and intake manifold only. Cylinder
heads consist of valves, valve springs, retainers keepers, rocker arms, stud
girdle and rocker studs. Intake manifold shall be bare.
(D) Driver making claim must be running on the lead lap, fifth place on
back.
(E) Each driver is allowed to make only one claim per event, regardless
of the outcome of the first claim.
(F) Driver wishing to make claim must drive his car to the claiming
area under its own power.
(G) Only the driver can make claim on heads and manifolds. Only the
driver can accept or refuse claim.
(H) All heads and manifolds being claimed will be removed at the
racetrack in a timely manner.
(I) Anyone attempting to sabotage heads and manifolds that are subject
to being claimed or swapped will be subject to fine, penalty and
disqualification or all of the above.
(J) First refusal to sell and swap will result in loss of all moneys
and points that night, a $1,000 fine and a two-week suspension from the track.
(K) Any driver refusing to sell and swap heads and manifold, when
claimed within the rules, regardless of his reinstatement with SDS, loses his
right to claim any driver’s heads and manifold for 12 calendar months from
date of refusal to sell or swap.
(L) All moneys forfeited will be deposited into the SDS Championship
fund.
(M) Any driver found to be claiming heads and manifold for anyone but
himself is subject to loss of all points, fine and/or suspension, as is the
driver or driver’s who conspire to do so.
(N) No devices allowed to make engine look like it is blowing up.
(O) No driver may claim the heads and manifold of another car that has
the same registered owner.
(P) All claims must be made to the official who is at the claiming area
immediately after the Main Event. Claming is restricted to the Main Event
only. Driver making claim must have in his possession $900 cash and his/her
SDS membership card.
(Q) No driver may claim more than 3 sets of heads and manifolds in one
racing season.
(R) Promoter may make claim on heads and manifold if no one else
claims.
(S) Any driver letting their pit crew get involved in any way during a
heads and manifold claim is subject to fine, penalty, disqualification or all
of the above.
(T) SDS reserves the right to make any necessary changes in the
claiming rule with one week’s notice to the competitors.
(U) No driver can be claimed more than 3 times per season.
MEMBERSHIPS
(A) Any person competing in a Silver
Dollar Speedway event must be a registered owner/driver in good standing with
Silver Dollar Speedway.
(B) Any car and/or driver after first guest appearance will not be
scored for points and will receive no money earned, until car and/or driver
have paid their Annual Registration for Silver Dollar Speedway.
(C) NO changing of car number at the track. If car leaves the track for
any reason and returns, The owner and driver must return with same car and
number. Last car a driver qualifies is the car he must drive. Car or driver
may only run in two qualifying laps, A relief may be used during “OPEN SHOW”
for same event. Upon pill draw a car becomes Qualified.
Decisions of Silver Dollar Official(s) are final
and binding without exception.
PROMOTER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ADD OR DELETE
EVENTS AS DEEMED NECESSARY. ALL DECISIONS WILL BE FINAL AT THE PROMOTERS
DISCRETION.
