Forsberg takes home more bonus cash in Placerville "Specialized
Parts Planet" Night Saturday, June 28, 2008 Results
PLACERVILLE, CA (6-28-08) - During the 2008 racing season Placerville Speedway has hosted a total of six community sponsorship nights, awarding bonus winnings to the feature event winners under the sponsorship of area business. After Saturday night, Auburn driver Andy Forsberg has claimed four of those lucrative victories and a total of five overall wins at the track he calls home. Saturday night, Forsberg's newest "payee" was Specialized Parts Planet who was the latest community minded business to participate in Placerville Speedway's "New Faces at the Races" campaign. The area recycled auto parts mogul brought some 100 associates to Placerville Speedway Saturday night and made the sprint car feature worth $2000 win. After Saturday night, there is little doubt that Forsberg's tax return will be reflecting a successful year behind the wheel of the A&A Stepping Stone #92. "I have to thank Specialized Parts Planet for their support of this race tonight," said Forsberg. "With the gas prices the way they are and the current economy things are getting tough for all of us, not only as teams but as you the fans because you easily spend fifty dollars just on gas to get to a track and the extra winning are really helpful. I'd like to thank Specialized for their support tonight and all the sponsors we've had this year thanks to the hard work by the Padjen group." Forsberg originally started the 25-lap Specialized Parts Planet A-feature on the inside of the third row. However, after a series of missed starts that sidelined front of the field starters Andy Gregg, Colby Wiesz and Troy Machado, the eventual start placed Forsberg on the outside of the front row next to Placerville's Scott Russell. At the waving of the green flag, Russell charged into the lead on the front stretch as Forsberg drove to the high side of the track and muscled into the led he would never relinquish. As Forsberg worked his way into lapped traffic in less than five laps he was distantly challenged by fast qualifier C.J. Humphreys of Placerville. Humphreys trailed Forsberg by a little more then a car length for much of the race but was unable to close in on the driver known as "Mr Excitement" who was running the risky but fast high line around the heat torn dry slick quarter-mile. At the checkered flag Forsberg picked up his fifth season win followed by Humphreys, Russell, Marc Mackay and Willie Croft. Earlier in the night Croft who transferred from the B-main earlier in the night despite damage to his front axle and very little steering ability. "This track was tough tonight," said Forsberg. "It was like a July Fourth track. It was fast up top but I was worried it was going to go away up there so I moved down low a couple of times and it was so slippery I just couldn't hang out down there so I took the risk up high."
In the Pure Stock division on Saturday, Tom Tilford of Citrus Heights charged his way to his fifth feature win of the season to pick up a $250 merchandise bonus from Specialized Parts Planet. Tilford was quick to acknowledge the sponsor for their support in victory lane. "I really want to thank Specialized Parts Planet for the support tonight," said Tilford. "I've read a lot about their company and they are growing fast. Its always appreciated when we get extra winnings and I'll certainly patronize them as much as I can." Tilford started the A-feature ninth in the field and patiently worked his way towards the front of the field where Cameron Park's Jared Vilt, Placerville's Danielle Clauson and Les Friend of Galt were all battling for the early lead. With five laps down, Clauson took the lead from Vilt and was then challenged by eighth place starter Kevin Wirth of Garden Valley. After racing door to door with Clauson, Wirth took the lead on lap seven and Tilford was advancing into the top three. Ten laps into the race, Wirth went high in the fourth turn and Tilford drove to the low side of the track to steal the lead. Wirth finished in second place while Vilt maintained the third spot over Clauson and Friend.
Dan Brown Jr. of Nevada City claimed his eighth win of the year in the Pro Stock division and $250 in merchandise from Specialized Parts Planet. The win increased Brown's already healthy point lead, which was 39-points entering Saturday night. Starting on the outside of the front row, Brown took the lead from polesitter Ray Trimble of Auburn. For the entire 15-lap affair Brown maintained a lead over more than a car length over Trimble who finished second ahead of Tom Arobosgast of Auburn, Forryst Carnett of Placerville and Camino's Del Tremblay. "We're having a great year so far but I am really looking forward to the fourth of July," said Brown. "The past three years something has always happened on the fourth and while I'd like to win next Friday night I will be happy with just saying I finished the race for once." The three track regulars were joined by the Midget Lites of the Bay Cities Racing Association. In this event Marshall Sexton of Ceres held off defending champion Chris Glass of Marysville for the win. Jeff Scott finished in third and was involved in a bad crash following the checkered flag off the first turn. After a lengthy extrication from the car, Scott managed to walk away from the incident. Doug Nunes finished in fourth followed by Dakota Albright. Complete details of the Midget Lites can be found at www.bcraracing.com. This Friday, July 4th the US Army and Gold County Limousines will comes together to present the 2008 Race to Freedom Indpendence Day Spectacular at Placervlle Speedway. The Sprint car feature will pay $2000 to on this night with additional bonus funds going the the top three finishers. Both the Pure Stock and Pro Stock divisions will receive bonus winnings among the top finishers as well. The evening will include a special opening ceremony feature the color guard, local singer Shawna Granade performing the national anthem and a flyover has been slated by the US Army following the anthem, pending weather and smoke conditions.
