PURPOSE
1. The following rules were adopted by
Golden State Challenge ”King Of California” Sprint Car Series. The purpose of
these rules are:
a) To provide for the safety of
drivers, pit crews and spectators at GSC events.
b) To assure each participant a fair decision in case of dispute.
c) To improve the performance of GSC sanctioned events and to
contribute in every way toward improving the sport of auto racing.
REGISTRATION
1. Individual Registration Card: Dues
are $75 per year for drivers, car owners, and general members.
2. Team Registration Card; at $220 per card/per year, Owner and Two
Crew Members.
3. MUST show registration card for discount NO REGISTRATION CARD, NO
DISCOUNT. NO EXCEPTIONS.
4. POINTS WILL. BE AWARDED ONLY TO BOTH DRIVERS AND CAR OWNERS WHO ARE
MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING OF GSC.
5. Purse money will NOT be disbursed without completed
Membership/Non-Member Registration Form on file at GSC office. Payoffs will be
made by check through mail.
6. CARS DEEMED ILLEGAL BY RACE TRACK OFFICIALS CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF
POINTS AND MONEY FOR THAT EVENT AND MAY BE SUSPENDED FOR UP TO FIVE (5) RACES.
RULES OF CONDUCT:
A. COOPERATION WITH OFFICIALS
1. All pit crews, drivers and owners
MUST cooperate with GSC Officials at all times to provide a good show.
2. In case of disputes arising, ONLY Car Owner OR Driver of the car
has he right to approach the Official. ONLY ONE REPRESENTATIVE PER CAR will
be allowed to discuss the issue with an Official in a calm and professional
manner.
B. RESPONSIBILITY
1. The Car Owner and/or Driver will be
responsible for the conduct of all persons associated with that car.
2. No one except the GSC Officials are allowed to approach the
scorers.
3. Any unauthorized person who goes to the Flagstand or Scoring Tower
will be assessed a fine or may be suspended.
C. UNBECOMING CONDUCT
1. Any Driver, Car Owner or Crew
Member, who at any time uses improper language to Officials may be
immediately reprimanded, expelled from the track, and/or subject to a fine
and/or subject to a fine and/or probation. Unbecoming conduct in front of
the audience will be cause for a non-protestable suspension and/or fine
and/or probation
2. Any Driver, Car Owner or Pit Crew, who at any time shoves, strikes
or attempts to strike any Official or Competitor will be fined and or
suspended.
3. Any Car Owner, Driver or Crew Owner who has the appearance of
being under the influence of alcohol or drugs shall not be allowed to
compete in that day’s events or allowed in pit area. Drinking or Drugs will
not be tolerated in any manner and appropriately dealt with.
PROTESTS:
1. Protests must be filed IN WRITING and
HAND DELIVERED to the Director of Competition or Technical/Pit Steward within
30 minutes of the completion of last event and must be accompanied by a $100
cash protest fee. All disputes will be settled the night of the event.
RACE CAR ELIGIBILITY:
1. Any car meeting the GSC
specifications will be allowed to compete.
2. Any car ruled unsafe for its driver or competitors may be taken out
of competition by officials.
3. Cars having fines or restrictions against them must be cleared
before entering competition.
4. Cars must be neat and attractive, and must display numerals at least
twelve inches (12”) high on the nose and both sides of the tail which are
clearly visible to the spectators and officials.
5. In the event that the ownership of a car with a fine or suspension
levied against it changes during the racing season, the fine or suspension
must be cleared before the car will be permitted to resume competition in GSC
sanctioned events.
6. No changing of car numbers at the track will be permitted. Except
for by officials for scoring purposes by adding a letter to a number.
7. No car owner changes will be allowed for the purpose of gaining car
owner points. (Car owner points for Registered car number - example car number
100 can not run car number 120 if car 120 is not running that event and owner
is not present to gain points for car 120 owner.)
RACE CAR SPECIFICATIONS:
1. 410 cubic inch limit push rod
engines. Two (2) valves per cylinder. Those who violate cubic inch limitations
can lose all money and points for both owner and driver earned for the race at
which the violation occurs plus a fine of no more than $500.
2. 1375 lb minimum weight with driver and helmet. Car may be weighed at
anytime Do Not Drive on scales, Car must be pushed on scales.
3. Methanol only. (No additives of any kind). Any car caught with any
type of performance additives can result in forfeit points and money for the
event and receive an automatic two race suspension. NO EXCEPTIONS.
4. No Blowers, superchargers or forced induction allowed No overhead
cam motors, normally aspirated only, No electronic computers or computerized
injection.
CHASSIS: Unlimited, EXCEPT
1. Minimum wheelbase is 84 inches.
2. Side nerf bars and front and rear bumpers are required. Rear bumpers
must be constructed of minimum 1” O.D. x .83 wall steel tubing.
3. All suspension bolts must be minimum Grade 5.
4. All body parts, bumpers and nerf bars must be securely attached.
Cotter pins and wire ties will not be permitted.
5. No rear-engine cars will be permitted. No Offset allowed, Engine,
Driver, Fuel Tank must be on center line of chassis.
6. Seats will be mounted to the frame with a. minimum of four (4) 3/8”
O.D. bolts backed by 1-1/4” O.D. minimum washers.
7. Aluminum or titanium front axles will not be permitted.
8. COCKPIT CHASSIS ADJUSTABLE ITEMS SUCH AS SHOCKS OR BARS ARE NOT
ALLOWED WING SLIDERS ONLY.
BODY:
1. MUST be sprint, including the nose*,
hood*, cowl* (*may be one piece), cockpit, side panels, tail, belly pan. Side
panels must cover, as a minimum, the area from the firewall to the front of
the seat.
WHEELS:
1. 14” minimum diameter.
2. NO titanium wheels will be permitted.
3. NO plastic wheels will be permitted.
4. NO carbon-fiber wheels
TIRES:
1. HTW stamped M-14 Right Rear
2. Hoosier tire rule will apply Must run both rear drive tires
3. Hoosier 55 optional
BRAKES:
1. Cars MUST have functioning brakes.
2. Steel or aluminum allowed.
3. NO carton fiber.
4. All brake lines must be fastened out of the way of all steering and
rotating components.
IGNITION:
1. An ignition switch and fuel shut-off
valve within easy reach of the driver is recommended. (See Fuel Tanks)
2. Magneto type or MSD type ignition allowed Boxes must be mounted
outside of cockpit.
ROLL CAGES:
All cars will be equipped with six-point roll bars (roll cages) of the following
minimum specifications:
1. Main members of the roll bar will be
constructed with a minimum of 1-3/8” O.D. x .095” wall for 4130 Chrome Moly
tubing 1-1/2 O.D. x .125” wall for Selby tubing.
2. Main member of the rollbar will be braced to the front or rear (rear
recommended with material having as a minimum the same wall thickness as the
main members), and is at least 7/8” diameter (same diameter as main members is
recommended). Braces will be attached to the main members at a point within 6”
of the top of the rear transverse member (as close to the top as possible is
recommended).
3. All joints and sharp corners must be gusseted.
4. Cross-bracing between rear transverse members of the roll bar is
recommended where space permits. headrest with 2” resilient material, mounted
behind driver’s head and firmly supported, is required.
5. The roll cage must extend two inches (2”) above the top of the
driver’s helmet when he is sitting in an upright position. It is recommended
that on all new cars, the roll cage should be extended four inches (4”) above
the top of the driver’s helmet
The normal height is 36” inches measured on a line equivalent to the driver’s
spine when seated in the car.
6. Final approval of all six-point roll bars is at the discretion of
the Technical Steward.
7. All roll cage top horizontal bars, rear vertical bars, and side
horizontal bars from the top to shoulder height shall be padded with the
minimum of ˝” “ thickness etha-foam #220 or equivalent.
FUEL TANKS:
1. Must be below or behind the driver,
and must be enclosed.
2. All cars must be equipped with a fuel bladder.
3. One-piece fuel tank and tail combinations will be permitted if
constructed of superpolyethylene material (e.g. the Snider tank) and equipped
with a bladder.
4. Manual or automatic fuel shut-offs at tank recommended.
5. Recommend fuel tank capable of 75 combination Green & Yellow flag
Laps
6. Fuel cell used to qualify MUST BE used in all events.
SEAT BELTS:
BELTS DATED WITHIN 2 YEARS OF CURRENT YEAR ARE REQUIRED EACH SEASON. SEAT BELTS
MUST BE:
1. Minimum width three (3) inches. 5 or
6 point belts only.
2. Minimum thickness must be approved by the Technical Steward.
3. Should not pass over the sides of the seat. Should come through the
seat at the bottom of each side thereby wrapping and holding the pelvic area.
Where the belt passes through the sides of the seat, the seat edges must be
rolled and/or grommetted to prevent chafing or cutting of the belt.
HELMETS:
1. Snell SA95 Helmets (or better) only.
MUFFLER:
1. Mufflers are required to yield a
reading not to exceed 95 DBA at 100 feet from the center of the racing
surfiace. NO EXCEPTIONS.
2. Mufflers and all functional parts thereof MUST be in place at the
end of each event, or the car will be disqualified. Anyone found by the
officials to be running without mufflers will be subject to suspension for the
remainder of the season. Any car exceeding 95 DBA at 100 feet during the race
due to loss of muffler parts WILL BE BLACK FLAGGED OR DISQUALIFIED.
OTHER:
1. On board fire extinguisher systems
are optional, but recommended.
2. CONSIDER ALL RED FLAGS CLOSED
3. Quick release steering hubs made of metal only NO plastic
4. No rear view mirrors of any kind on face vehicle. All cars must be
equipped with a de-clutching device or an in-and-outbox.
5. No two-way radios or electronic communications between driver and
other team member allowed. No manual signaling of any kind including LED
lights, boards or other devices.
6. Car owners are required to maintain a serviceable fire extinguisher
in their immediate pit area. Fire extinguisher will be a minimum of 2-1/4 lb.
capacity and will of the CO2 or powder (Ansul) type.
7. All steering wheels must be equipped with a center pad.
8. All bolts attaching steeling parts must be equipped with jam-nuts or
nylon locking nuts.
9. Wing dimensions:
a) Top wing not to exceed twenty-five
(25) square feet Side panels not to exceed 30” inches in height.
b) Front wing of one piece not to exceed six (6) square feet, no
wider than 36” inches, and side panels not to exceed 12” inches.
c) Wicker bills not to exceed 1” inch.
10. 2 spin rule in effect. Stop 2 times
done for that event.
11. All cars that stop in a first lap incident will restart in the rear
All cars that stop on the track will be placed at the rear for starts &
restarts except cars that stop next to an official for a safety related item.
12. All work are courtesy of 2 laps starting when the last car in the
incident reaches the work area will be extended time permitting. No courtesy
laps 30 minutes prior to curfew.
13. Failure to obey the black flag may result in disqualification.
QUALIFYING:
1. Numbers will be drawn at or near the
lineup board. All numbers are to be drawn prior to drivers meeting. Anyone not
drawing will be placed at the rear of qualifying for that class. Qualifying
positions will be determined by drawing a number. Any car more than three cars
out of position for qualifying will automatically lose one qualifying lap and
may not start better than 11th in the main event.
2. Qualifying will consist of two consecutive laps. Unless, in the case
of circumstances beyond the control (be it power outage, Driver injury, wet
track or some other detrimental event) The Director Of Competition with the
agreement of the facility manager may call for a draw program. Line-ups will
be based on the original qualifying numbers drawn for that event. Normal purse
& points will be paid for that event. One-and-one format may be adopted at the
discretion of the Director of Competition
3. When a car spins out or fails to complete a timed qualifying lap, it
loses that lap.
4. When a driver pulls in after one qualifying lap though still on the
green flag, qualifying is complete.
5. Qualifying will not be extended to permit re-qualifying of cars in
violation of muffler regulations or cars not in line when last car to quality
completes it last qualifying lap
6. All cars will be required to run the mufflers used for qualifying
for the remainder of the program (refer to muffler stipulations).
7. Driver can qualify only one car for the program. In the event that
two drivers qualify a car, the official time posted will be that of the fast
driver qualifying and that driver must run the last car qualified, and run
that car at least one event before changing to another car. A driver may not
change cars unless his original car has scratched for the evening. NO DRIVER
CHANGE WILL BE PERMITTED AFTER THE INITIAL START OF AN EVENT. Substitute
drivers will start at the rear of the field regardless of qualifying position
of car.
8. If, for any reason, a driver and car match-up in any race is broken,
then the car only is considered qualified. If a car switches drivers, that car
must start at the rear of the race that the car is qualified for. If a driver
switches cars, the driver will start at the rear of the race that the car is
qualified for. After any race’s original green flag is dropped, no driver-car
combination may be broken.
9. No car owner changes will be allowed upon completion of qualifying
for the purpose of GSC car owner points
10. Once a class has completed qualifying, no other cars will be able
to qualify for that class. Car must be complete and presented at the line with
driver ready before last car completes it’s timed lap in order to qualify
11. Car may qualify for one program only. The same car may NOT be used
to run two different programs. Each program requires a separate entry. Rule
applies to Car only, not Driver.
FORMAT:
1. Qualifying; 2 consecutive laps
2. Heat Races; Fastest 48 cars will run 4 heat races with 24 fastest
cars inverted in front of the cars qualifying 25th thru 48th
3. Consolation Race: cars finishing 9th--12th in heats and cars not in
the fastest 48 qualifiers. Straight up
4. B Main Events: 5th thru 8th place heat finishers plus 2 transfers
from consolation. Cars line straight up by time including consolation
transfers.
5. A Main Event: Top 4 finishers from heats plus transfers from B Main
Event Transfers thru heats revert back to qualifying time. Top 4 in B Main
Event revert back to qualifying time behind the pill draw inversion.
6. Main Event Inversion selected by fast time qualifier after 4th heat
race. 20 cars or less inversion pills are 4-6-8-10. 21 or more cars inversion
pills are 4-6-8-10-12.
7. Heats: 10 Laps
Consolation Race: 10 Laps
B Main Event: 12 Laps
A Main Event: 30 Laps (Except Calistoga 25 Laps)
8. Red flag stoppages are considered closed and will not be scored on
the split. Restart line-ups will be as the last green flag lap scored with the
involved cars being placed to the rear of the field.
9. During the course of an event tire changing is not allowed. If any
tire on a car is changed, cars changing tires will be sent to the rear of the
field.
10. Any dumping of used tires, racing or otherwise, are in violation of
state law and will be fined accordingly.
GSC OFFICIALS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE FINAL
DECISIONS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF ANY RULES OR RACE
PROCEDURES AT ANY TIME. NO EQUIPMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED APPROVED BY REASON OF
HAVING PASSED THRU INSPECTION UNOBSERVED.
