QUINCY, CA (6-21-08) - Since the start of the 2008 racing season, one of the most anticipated events of the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series was the inaugural event at the scenic American Valley Speedway in Quincy, California. Saturday night, the long awaited night came for area drivers and racing fans when the competitive traveling series for winged 360 sprint cars brought 38 entrants to California's second biggest dirt track and new face to victory lane.

Myles Bishop of Escalon, drove his way to the $2000 victory Saturday night aboard the Velocity Motorsports #7 sprint car. Followed a troubled night one week earlier in Calistoga, Bishop was one of the few drivers that avoided mayhem Saturday night to clinch the win, the first winged sprint car victory of his young career.

The original line up slated Bishop on the inside of the eighth row for the 30 lap feature event. Following a series of collision and spins and multiple attempts at an official start, Bishop soon found himself starting at the front of the field before an official lap was ever scored.

Taking to the high line of the track, Bishop powered into a lead he would never relinquish at the waving of the green flag. Early in the race he was joined among the top five positions by 17th place starter Andy Gregg of Placerville, point leader Sean Becker of Sacramento, defending champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn and fellow Rookie of the Year contender Alissa Geving of Penngrove.

While Bishop drove a near perfect line at the front of the field, the foursome of Gregg, Becker, Forsberg and Geving dueled for the next four positions until the checkered flag flew late in night with Bishop claiming the win followed by Greggm Becker, Forseberg and Geving.

In preliminary competition on Saturday, the B feature was won by Steven Tiner of Elverta who was followed by Brett Miller of Chico, and Chad Riolo of Roseville. Chad Compton of Fair Oaks won the opening heat race of the evening and was joined in the way of preliminary victories by Gregg, Willie Croft of Sacramento and Bishop. Brett Miller was the fast qualifier of the evening.

Following Saturday's event, Becker has increased his Civil War Series point lead to a 20-point margin. Forsberg advanced from the third position into second place in the ranks ahead of former two time Champion David Robinson Jr. of Foresthill, Kyle Larson of Elk Grove and Herman Klein of Sacramento. Croft sits in the sixth position over Gregg and Colby Wiesz of Colfax. Bishop advanced four positions in the standings and now sits in ninth. Geving advanced a position and now rounds out the top ten.

The Civil War Series will return to action on Saturday, July 5 at Petaluma Speedway for the seventh round of competition. For additional information on this event visit www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com. or www.petaluma-speedway.com
