PLACERVILLE, CA (7-29-13) - If you're an open wheel race fan, these next two weeks are definitely races you don't want to miss at Placerville Speedway. This Saturday night, the mighty Midgets and Midget Lites of the Bay Cities Racing Association will join the winged Sprint Cars at Placerville Speedway as the 2013 Red Hawk Casino-Hoosier Tires-Coors Light Championship Season continues.
While Saturday's event will provide plenty of excitement on its own, it is a prelude to another big night of racing on Saturday, August 10 as the Civil War Sprint Car Series returns to Placerville Speedway for the big $5000 to win Mark Forni Classic. Many out of area drivers are expected at Placerville Speedway beginning this Saturday night as they prepare for this event, the highest paying race in history at Placerville Speedway.
This Saturday night, point leader Andy Forsberg will look to continue his trek towards his fifth championship title at Placerville Speedway. After scoring his second feature win last Saturday night, Forsberg is now sitting in the lead by a 38-point margin over Placerville's Andy Gregg in the championship point standings. Jimmy Trulli of Placerville is third in the standings, trailing the top spot by 43 digits as the division enters its 11th race of the season that concludes in just a few weeks.
Sitting in the fourth position is Elk Grove's Greg DeCaires. After a recent win streak of three consecutive events at Placerville, DeCaires is currently 87-points from the lead. Rounding out the top five is Calistoga's Mike Benson. Benson sits 101 points from the lead position. Justin Johnson of Shingle Springs is sixth in the ranks. Prunedale's Justin Sanders is in the seventh position while James Sweeney of Placerville is eighth. Adam Walters of Reno and Charlie Cagle of Penryn round out the top ten entering Saturday's race.
As the Bay Cities Racing Association returns to the Placerville bullring they will bring their usual high octane level of excitement. In addition to the on track action, this event is the annual Jack London Bash Picnic and Hall of Fame for the BCRA. From 10 am until 3 p.m. racers and fans are welcome to attend the event on the lawn of the El Dorado County Fairgrounds where a BBQ Lunch will be served including Tri-Tip and Hot Dogs prior to the BCRA announcing its 2013 Hall of Fame Inductees. Tickets for the event that benefits BCRA can be purchased at www.bcraracing.com.
Entering Saturday's race, the BCRA Midget point standings have Kevin Morris at the top of the roster over veteran driver Floyd Alvis. Gary Conterno is third in the standings over Darin Snider while JR Williams rounds out the top five over David Goodwill, Michael Snider and Bill Lindsey.
In the Midget Lites division, defending champion Scott Kinney is at the top of the point ladder with previous Placerville winner Bradley Dillard in second place. Stuart Goehring is third followed by Brian Corso, Dakota Albright and Craig Dillard.
The 2013 Championship Racing Season at Placerville Speedway is presented in part by Red Hawk Casino, Hoosier Tires and Coors Light as well as the Mountain Democrat, Thompson's Auto Centers, ADCO Driveline, Riebes Auto Parts and Stymeist Auto Body Collision Repair.
The grandstands will open at 5 p.m. on Saturday night with ADCO Driveline Qualifying starting at 6:30.
