Lone Placerville Visit This Saturday
By Troy Hennig
PLACERVILLE, CA (6-17-13) - One of the most anticipated events during the 2013 Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Shootout Series will take place this Saturday night, June 22nd, at the electrifying Placerville Speedway. The famous red dirt will come to life with the roar and thunder of non-wing spec sprint cars as they attack Alan Handy's well-manicured quarter-mile clay oval speedway. The series will embark on round number four at Placerville with a full field of cars expected for the lone visit of the year.
Napa's Joe Stornetta leads the charge into this Saturday nights race. While Stornetta is looking for his first win of the year, the youngster has been the most consistent of the top five drivers. Stornetta holds a two point advantage over Rio Linda's Scott Hall. Anderson's Rowdy McClenon sits in the third spot just five-points behind Stornetta. Round number three winner, Terry Schank Jr. of Santa Rosa holds down the fourth position. Another Santa Rosa driver, Sparky Howard, rounds out the top five. The top five in points shows a diverse range of experience coupled with drivers still hungry to taste the spoils of victory lane.
"This is the place we want to win the most," said Scott Hall when asked about Placerville this Saturday night. "This is our home track. There is no other place I want to win more than in front of a packed house at Placerville." Hall and the rest of the loyal drivers to the Hunt Series were kept out of victory lane at two separate Placerville point shows last year by the non-wing specialist, Galt's Matt Streeter. "We assume he'll be there," said Hall referring to Streeter. "He loves Placerville and showed us all up last year."
Another local driver is looking to do deal. Roseville's Angelique Bell is currently sixth in points and searching for her first spec sprint win. Colton Slack along with Geoff Ensign, Austin Liggett and Bob Newberry round out the top ten in championship points.
Director of Communications for the Placerville Bill Sullivan said, "There is nothing as traditional as non-wing sprint cars. We love working with Roger and his entire staff and drivers. I know our fans have been circling this night on their calendar's for a long time."
Once again the series will pay a $1,000 to win each main event with $130.00 to start the main. There will be a $3,000 point fund to the top 10 finishers in the points at the end of the season. In addition, Joe Hunt Magnetos will pay an additional $600.00 in bonuses to the top three running Joe Hunt Magnetos product.
For the first time, the series will highlight the racing at Silver Dollar Speedway on July 4th. Two weeks later the series will make its first ever trip to Orland Speedway on July 20th. Final three shows of the year include August 10th at Petaluma, September 4th at Chico and conclude September 21st at Petaluma Speedway. All of the events at Petaluma will coincide with the Pit Stop USA Spec Sprint Series.Front gate will open at 5pm and racing is slated to start at 6:30 pm.
