2013 racing season opens this Saturday at Placerville Speedway

PLACERVILLE, CA (4-2-13) - The dents have been removed, the wings have been given fresh paint and graphics and the driver uniforms are back from the cleaners. That's right race fance, it's time to go racing in El Dorado County as one of the most anticipated racing season's in recent years is set to get underway this Saturday at Placerville Speedway.
Under the title sponsorship of Red Hawk Casino in conjunction with Hoosier Racing Tires, Pepsi, Coors Light and Thompson Auto Centers, the 2013 racing season will begin with an action packed four division program including winged 360 sprint cars, limited late models, pure stocks and the colorful coupes of the Nor Cal Dwarf Car Association.
"This season has one of the best schedules we have had in a long time with some great events," said Alan Handy, Placerville Speedway Promoter. "I'm grateful for the support the fans and drivers continue to offer to Placerville and for some of the great new sponsorships that have come on board this year to make racing even better in El Dorado County."
This season all three regular divisions will compete in 14 hard fought events towards the coveted championship title. The three track regulars will routinely be joined throughout the year by a variety of guest divisions to make for a four division program on the majority of race nights at the bullring. In addition to the dwarf cars look for the Bay Cities Racing Association Midgets and Midget Lites throughout the year along with wingless sprint cars, the USAC Classic Series and some of the states top open wheel campaigns.
Headliner events at the foothill bullring will include two events by the firebreathing sprint cars of the King of the West Sprint Car Series that are slated for April 27 and June 29th. The Civil War Sprint Car Series will make four appearances in 2013 starting with June 1st when the winged warriors share the track with the BCRA Midgets.
On Thursday, July 4th the Civil War tour returns for the second annual 'Tiner Family Classic" that will boast inflated winnings along with a fireworks show in celebration of Independence Day. This season, the annual Mark Forni Classic will be a Civil War Series event. This high paying tribute race will be on August 10th and will include the Nor Cal Dwarf Cars.
The Civil War campaign will wrap up and officially close the season at Placerville Speedway on September 21 with the annual Tribute to Al Hinds sponsored by Thompson's Auto and Truck Centers. This race will also all day festivities locally and offer a winners bonus sponsored by the local auto dealer in tribute to one of the tracks early promoters.
Mountain Democrat Kids Night returns on August 18th in conjunction with the Placerville Police Officers Association Destruction Derby. The Kids Night festivities will take place during the point race on Saturday night while the POA will celebrate the 40th anniversary derby on Sunday afternoon.
The second annual Race for Hunger is slated for Saturday night, August 24th. The following week will mark Big Pepsi Trophy Night at the speedway.
New local sponsorships to Placerville Speedway bring some new energy to the weekly events this season. Every night the fast qualifier will pick up a $100 bonus courtesy of ADCO Drivelines and Custom Exhaust in Shingle Springs. A new event this year will be the nightly Kids Dash presented by Riebes Auto Parts. This event places two random drivers one on one prior to intermission each week in a two lap match race. The winner is joined in victory lane by one lucky youngster during intermission to have his photo taken and receive a special trophy.
Headlining the roster on Saturday night will be Auburn's Andy Forsberg, the defending three time Placerville Speedway track champion. Forsberg returns this season once again behind the wheel of the competitive F&F Racing #X1 sprint car. Forsberg will be joined by nearly 30 of California's top teams looking to get an early run at the driver that has dominated the Placerville clay for so long.
Late Model Champion Matt Micheli of Live Oak is expected to return in defense of his championship in this division. In the Pure Stock division look for 2013 champion Matt Tilford to me moving to the Late Model Division. Runner up to the title Chris Curtiss is expected to return on a part time basis in this division along with a large group of local weekend warriors that will set their sights on the season title.
The grandstands will open at 5 p.m. on Saturday night. Tickets will be available at that time Adult tickets will be $14, Juniors and Seniors will be $12, Children $6.
