By Bill Sullivan, Handy Racing Promotion Media Relations
PLACERVILLE, CA (1-10-13) - The office of Handy Racing Promotions has officially released the tentative racing schedule for the 2013 championship racing season at Placerville Speedway. The action packed season to come consists of 25 total events spanning March through September at the high banked quarter-mile clay oval at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.
Under the title sponsorship of the Red Hawk Casino-Hoosier Racing Tires-Coors Light and Pepsi Cola, the 2013 racing season will begin on Saturday night, March 30th for a test and tune event for all divisions. This play date will allow drivers to prepare for the competitive racing season ahead that offers something for every type of race fan this year. The Fast and Furious Dirt Track Racing Championship campaign will begin on Saturday night, April 6th for 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars, Limited Late Models and Pure Stocks. This season all three divisions will compete in 14 hard fought events towards the coveted championship title. The three track regulars will routinely be joined throughout the year by a variety of guest divisions to make for a four division program on the majority of race nights at the bullring. The popular Nor Cal Dwarf Cars will join in the action on opening night and will compete in a total of six events all together at Placerville. The Midget Lites of the Bay Cities Racing Association will take to the red clay on five different dates while the traditional BCRA Midgets will pay two visits to the high banks during the year. While these divisions will make multiple visits throughout the season, look for cameo appearances by the USAC Western Classic Series, the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Series along with the vintage hardtops that will appear during the BCRA Hall of Fame night on August 3rd. Headliner events at the foothill bullring will include two events by the firebreathing sprint cars of the King of the West Sprint Car Series that are slated for April 27 and June 29th. The Civil War Sprint Car Series will make four appearances in 2013 starting with June 1st when the winged warriors share the track with the BCRA Midgets. On Thursday, July 4th the Civil War tour returns for the second annual 'Tiner Family Classic" that will boast inflated winnings along with a fireworks show in celebration of Independence Day. This season, the annual Mark Forni Classic will be a Civil War Series event. This high paying tribute race will be on August 10th and will include the Nor Cal Dwarf Cars. The Civil War campaign will wrap up and officially close the season at Placerville Speedway on September 21 with the annual Tribute to Al Hinds sponsored by Thompson's Auto and Truck Centers. This race will also offer a winners bonus sponsored by the local auto dealer in tribute to one of the tracks early promoters. The Lucas Oil National Sprint Car Series will return for its third straight year with the Bullring Nationals on Wednesday, July 24th when the top drivers of the Nation go up against California's best in a classic Wild Winged Wednesday fashion. Mountain Democrat Kids Night returns on August 18th in conjunction with the Placerville Police Officers Association Destruction Derby. The Kids Night festivities will take place during the point race on Saturday night while the POA will celebrate the 40th anniversary derby on Sunday afternoon. The second annual Race for Hunger that will benefit the Food Bank of El Dorado County is slated for Saturday night, August 24th. The following week will mark Big Pepsi Trophy Night at the speedway. The 2013 racing season has plenty to offer in 2013 with a wide variety of racing venues, a series of special tribute races and many high caliber nights of racing.
