PLACERVILLE, CA (8-8-12) - The Fast and Furious Championship Racing Season presented by Red Hawk Casino and Hoosier Racing Tires is into its final weeks at Placerville Speedway. After a break for a special event, the championship battle returns this Saturday night with four divisions of racing at the quarter-mile clay oval at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.
Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Pure Stocks will form the championship racing card. The three track regulars will be joined by the colorful coupes of the Nor Cal Dwarf Car Association. In the winged sprint car division, defending track champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn continues to lead the point standings but is feeling the pressure close behind from Cameron Park's Stephen Allard. Entering Saturday's race, Allard is just 17-points behind the leader and is almost a guaranteed front runner regardless of his starting position in recent weeks. Former champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove remains in the hunt at well, sitting in third place with 35 points between he and Forsberg. Placerville's own Jimmy Trulli is fourth in the standings overall. Trulli is 93 points from the lead position and holds off Justin Johnson of Shingle Springs who rounds out the top five over Placerville's James Sweeney. In the Pure Stock division there has been a changing of the guard in the point lead. After an absence two weeks ago, Orangevale's Matt Tilford has fallen from the top position for the first time this season. Placerville's Chris Curtiss has moved into the drivers point lead and sits just one point ahead of Scott Grunert of Woodland. Tilford remains third in the standings and will look to redeem his position in an effort to win his first championship in these closing weeks. Tilford is just four points out of the lead entering Saturday's race. Dominic Stone of Folsom is fourth in the ranks over recent feature winner Chris Van Roekel of Grass Valley. In the Limited Late Model division, Matt Micheli of Live Oak will look to secure his first Placerville Speedway title in the next two weeks. Micheli is a five time feature winner and leads the standings by an outstanding 55-points. His father, Ken Micheli is second in the point standings. Marek Bernert of Orangevale is third overall followed by Jay Norton of Cameron Park and division newcomer and Rookie of the Year contender Tom Tilford of Citrus Heights. Adult tickets are $13 for Saturday and available at the track box office. Seniors and Juniors are $11 while Children are $6. Those five and under will be admitted free.
