PLACERVILLE, CA (6-20-12) - After a week off to allow for the El Dorado County Fair, the 2012 Fast and Furious Championship point racing season resumed at Placerville Speedway Saturday night with four divisions of racing on the quarter-mile dirt oval sponsored by Red Hawk Casino, Hoosier Tires, Coors Light and Pepsi Cola.
On a very dry slick race track that was struck by the afternoon winds and heat, Allard charged his way up from the sixth place starting position Saturday night to close in on point leader Andy Forsberg of Auburn who led the majority of the laps in Saturday's 25-lap feature event. On the 20th lap the former Silver Dollar Speedway champion overtook the lead when Forsberg was involved with a collision in lapped traffic traveling through the second turn.
Earlier in the night, Allard posted the fast lap in qualifying. The B feature was won Saturday night by Sean Becker. Heat races were claimed by Mike Benson, Jimmy Trulli and James Sweeney. In the Pure Stock division, Orangevale's Matt Tilford earned his eighth consecutive win of the year. Tilford worked his way to the front early in the 20 lap feature event to close in on race leader Chris Curtiss of Placerville. After trading paint with Curtiss which resulted in a spin, Tilford took the lead on the 17th lap of the race. Tilford came cross the finish line to remain undefeated in the season. Scott Grunert of Woodland finished in second place followed by Dominic Stone of Folsom and Chris McGinnis of Citrus Heights.
In the wingless sprint cars of the Joe Hunt Magnetos Series Saturday night, Galt's Matt Streeter took command of the field from the pole positions. Streeter dominated the top spot ton the finish line in the 20-lap affair. Taylor Simas finished in the second position followed by Geoff Ensign, Rowdy McClenon and Cody Smith. Placerville Speedway will host the King of the West Sprint Car Series next Saturday, June 30th. For complete information on that event visit www.placervillespeedway.com. |
