PLACERVILLE, CA (6-20-12) - After a one week hiatus for the El Dorado County Fair, the 2012 Fast and Furious Dirt Track Championship Racing series presented by Red Hawk Casino, Hoosier Tires and Coors Light returns to Placerville Speedway on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds this Saturday night. Four divisions of racing will be on tap for the ninth championship event of the season.
Winged 360 Sprint Cars will headline the action on Saturday night along with the return of the Limited Late Models and the Pure Stocks. The three track regulars will be accompanied by the wingless sprint cars of the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Series to make a four division program. In the sprint car division, defending three time champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn continues to lead the point standings. The driver known as Mr. Excitement has three feature wins to his name this season and is still the only one with multiple victories thus far in the year. Forsberg now sits with a 21-point advantage over former champion and early season point leader Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove. Cameron Park's Stephen Allard is third in the standings and is 34-points out of the point lead following his recent victory. Placerville's Jimmy Trulli is fourth overall. James Sweeney of Placerville has advanced two positions into fifth just over Elk Grove's Nicole Miller. In the Limited Late Models, four time winner Matt Micheli of Live Oak continues to lead the point standings in this division with a 39-point advantage over his father, Ken Micheli, also of Live Oak. Sitting behind the two North State veteran drivers is Marek Bernert of Orangevale, 41 points from the lead. Jay Norton of Cameron Park is fourth in the standings, 72 points from the lead. Tom Tilford of Citrus Heights rounds out the top five. Tilford is 80 points from the point leader in the fifth position. In the highly competition Pure Stock division, Orangevale's Matt Tilford continues to remain undefeated with seven straight wins. Tilford now holds a 23-point advantage over former champion Chris Curtiss of Placerville. Scott Grunert of Woodland is third in the point standings followed by Folsom's Dominic Stone and Chris Van Roekel of Grass Valley. In the visiting Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Series, Santa Rosa's Terry Schank Jr. is the current point leader as the series heads into Placerville Speedway this weekend. Schank is still searching for his first series win but his consistency is what has vaulted him to the top. Schank has finished second in the main event both times this season. Opening night winner Scott Hall is holding down the second spot. Hall is trialing Schank by eight points. Biggs driver Cody Smith sits in the third spot. Smith has finished fourth in both main events this season. Roseville driver Angelique Bell is currently fourth. Bell has two finishes of seventh this year. Napa's Joe Stornetta rounds out the top five. Adult tickets are $13 for Saturday and available at the track box office. Seniors and Juniors are $11 while Children are $6. Those five and under will be admitted free. For further information visit www.placervillespeedway.com or call the track office at (916) 783-DIRT.
