PLACERVILLE, CA (5-5-12) - In his first visit of the 2012 season, former two time Placerville Speedway track champion Colby Wiesz of Colfax drove to victory lane. Driving his family owner Wiez Motorsports #21, The Colfax Comet celebrated his first Red Hawk Casino-Hoosier Racing Tires-Coors Light Championship win with a former colleague in the Bay Cities Racing Association Midget Lite Division and two repeat winners in the stock car classes.

Former Placerville Speedway Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Scott Kinney of Citrus Heights drove to victory in the Midget Lite division. Matt Micheli of Live Oak dominated the Limited Late Model Feature to post his third consecutive win of the season. Matt Tilford of Orangevale did much the same in the Pure Stock division, winning his third straight feature event to increase his growing point lead.

In the Sprint Car division on Saturday night, 21 entries formed the field for Saturday's event. In qualifying, defending track champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn posted the fastest lap of the night with a 10:733 second lap. Forsberg edged local favorite Jimmy Trulli of Placerville for the top spot while Justin Johnson of Shingle Springs clocked in third over Charlie Cagle of Penryn and Mike Benson of Calistoga rounded out the top five positions.

In the 25 lap sprint car feature event, Forsberg took the lead off the pole position at the green flag while second place starter Trulli was overtaken by Johnson on the opening lap and fell out of contention with front end damage. Wiesz started eighth in the field and worked his way into the top five with just two laps complete. The two time Placerville champion drove into the top three positions with seven laps complete and set his sights on Johnson and Forsberg for the top positions.

After overtaking Johnson for second with nine laps down, Wiesz began chasing Forsberg for the lead. Forsberg held off the efforts of Wiesz until the 14th lap when a cut tire cost him the lead and the potential win. Wiesz went on to lead the remaining laps of the race while opening night winner Greg DeCairies overtook Johnson for the second position on the 15th lap and began closing in on the leader. Benson too moved in on the battle and took the third position with 16 laps complete. When the checkered flag waved Wiesz was followed across the line by DeCaires and Benson. James Sweeney of Placerville claimed the fourth position in the final laps while Johnson rounded out the top five.

In the Limited Late Model Division, Matt Micheli of Live Oak led all 15 laps of the race. The event started with nine entries and was plagued with five yellow flags for the duration. Micheli drove across the line for his third win of the year followed by Jason Englund of Citrus Heights, Matt Davis of Auburn, Ken Micheli of Live Oak and Jay Norton of Shingle Springs.

In the Pure Stock division, Chris Van Roekel of Grass Valley took the initial lead of the 20 lap feature. Tilford started fourth on the grid and worked his way into second place on the opening lap to close in on the leader. On the second lap Tilford made his winning move to take the lead from VanRoekel. Once in front Tilford was followed by VanRoekel until the 14th lap when Placerville's Chris Curtiss moved in and took the lead. At the finish line Tilford was followed by Curtiss, defending champion Clarence Holbrook III of Galt, Scott Grunert of Woodland and Dennis Armstrong of El Dorado.

In the visiting Midget Lites division, Kinney took the lead a the green flag and never relinquished in for the entire 20 lap affair. The former sprint car ace held off the hard charging efforts of Doug Nunes at the finish line followed by Craig Dillard, Dakota Albright and Cory Green.
