PLACERVILLE, CA (7-24-10) - She's witty, she's darling and she's faster than ever before. Michelle McClure has been coming on strong all season at Placerville Speedway in the Pure Stock division and Saturday night the third generation driver from Nevada City muscled to her first victory of the year and her second career win.

"I've been trying so hard for this all year. This one is even bigger than my first win because I can stand here knowing that I did it all on my own out on the track this time," said 20-year-old McClure, referencing her first career win back in 2006 in which her Father, Burney, competed and raced much of the race in the second position. "I had nobody helping me out there tonight."

McClure started the feature event deep in the field Saturday night, lining up 10th for the 20-lap affair. She wasted no time whatsoever in working her way into the top five positions. Rick Grunert led the early laps of the race until he was overtaken by Jared Vilt, who started eighth and moved forward much like McClure.

Vilt took the lead on the 13th lap of the event. With 17 laps down McClure shot from fourth place into second and began chasing down the leader. When the white flag waved the battle continued as McClure and Vilt competed in one of the year's most exciting Pure Stock races. In the end, girl power prevailed and McClure drove to the win as the crowd rose to their feet to support her effort. Vilt finished in second place followed by Eddie Gardner, Kris Wirth and point leader Chris Curtiss.

Entering Saturday's event, McClure was 32-points behind Curtiss in the championship standings. Knowing that Curtiss will be absent on the final point race, McClure is keeping a watchful eye on the numbers in these closing weeks in hopes she can drive her way to become the first ever female Placerville Speedway Champion.

"We come out here and we try not to think about points," said McClure. "But then you get in a position where you can't help but think about them. I'm going to do my best to try and win this deal. I really have to thank my Dad for all the work on the car and all his help and support. He works really hard to make sure we are ready every week and I couldn't do it without him and my whole family."

In the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Cars, Terry Schank Jr. of Santa Rosa drove to his third series win of the season. Schank is the current point leader of this competitive traveling campaign and took the lead at the waving of the green flag from pole sitter Marc Mackay of Shingle Springs.

Leading the event from green flag to checkered, Schank picked up the win over Mackay, Taylor Simas, Jeremy Hawes and Cody Myers.

"This was a good race here tonight," said Schank, who also won at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico Friday night. "Last night we were fighting a tough track and couldn't put much of a show on. Tonight this car was perfect, it usually is and I was able to get out in front early and stay there."

In the Dirt Solutions Limited Late Models, Dan Brown Jr. of Grass Valley drove to his fourth win of the season to extend his championship point lead. Brown started on the outside of the front row and overtook pole sitter Jay Norton of Shingle Springs for the lead. Norton challenged Brown in an effort to redeem his position throughout the race but in the end Brown was first to the line followed by Norton, Tom Arbogast, Matt Davis and Jason Englund.

"Jay Norton is a really under rated driver out here,' said Brown. "That guy has gotten really good all season and keeping ahead of him is getting harder and harder. He gave me a run tonight. We have a nice point lead but really, it's just 25-points and that's just one main event and anything could happen. I've been working a lot on our set up and really have to thank Rocket Chassis for their help over the phone this past week. We're figuring some things out.

Saturday night welcomed Dirt Modifieds back to Placerville for the first time in several years for a special $800 to win special event. In this race, Robert Miller took home the win after overtaking early leader Troy Foulger. Kenny Neu finished in third followed by Junior Dawson.

Handy Racing Promotions would like to thank all of the Modified teams to made the effort to compete on Saturday night. The entire division put on a crowd pleasing performance and track management is looking at adding the class on additional dates in the future.

This Saturday July 31 another rich night of racing returns to Placerville Speedway with the annual Tribute to Al Hinds Civil War Race at Placerville. This event will pay $3000 to win and features a giant race car show and bbq at Family Auto Center in Shingle Springs early in the day. Race fans and families can come meet many of the drivers and enjoy free hot dogs, hamburgers and soda while listening to live music by Shauna Lea and The Hired Guns, competing in various contests to win one of the hundreds of tickets that will be given away throughout the day. Fuzion Filmz will be presenting race videos of previous events throughout the day as well. For further information visit www.placervillespeedway.com
